Return to Nature: A Radical Mind Shift
I've recently read an article called "Freebirth: is giving birth without medical support safe? by Joanna Moorhead (The Guardian, 14/09/13). The article discusses the increasing amount of women in the UK that are exploring a Freebirth as an alternate to hospital deliveries and limited publicly-funded midwives since (private) Independent Midwives are being outlawed in October 2013.
Independent Midwives supported nearly 3000 home births last year but insurance providers will no longer cover their services. These midwives will not be able to practice since health care providers must be insured. Midwives of the National Health Services -NHS (the publicly-funded health care system of England and Wales) are available to attend a home birth however are limited in number and are heavily regulated, limiting the options of a woman's birth plan. For example, if a labouring woman calls for her NHS midwife who is attending another birth she must go by ambulance to the hospital. There is no other option, well until now.
A Freebirth is defined as "any birth that occurs under the authority of the mother herself. The mother and any professional or non-professional attendees recognize her autonomy"

"Recognize her autonomy." I needed to stop there for a while.
To me there is no other circumstance or situation that a woman has or should have complete autonomy than childbirth.
Under healthy conditions, this is a process that cannot be designated to any other person.
Childbirth is completely the experience of the mother whether 10 people are attending or no people are attending. A woman's body will birth whether she wants to or not.
So who has the right to dictate how this should be done besides the mother knowing her full condition?
When I grasped this reality (during the birth of my third child) was when I became conceived with the power to defend my natural rights and that I was fully accountable for my decisions. This completely empowered me and immediately shifted my mind set. I became aware that I had every right to stand up for myself and what I believed in. This included my aspirations to share this knowledge with others especially since this is "radical" thinking compared to modern schools of thought.
I can understand why it would be easier to remain in a comfort zone like relying on the health care system to deliver a baby. There is an intense fear that is associated with childbirth that parents may consider Freebirth as ludicrous or criminally negligent. This powerful realization however, though at times has been frightening, has demanded that I think critically and stand firmly behind my decisions. It has demanded that I exercise self confidence to also make to improvements to my lifestyle.
Self confidence is a trait identified in entrepreneurs as a leading contributor to stalled progress. A lack of self confidence could be attributed to the disempowerment of people from their rights and from people not willing to accept this level of accountability.
When an entrepreneur can recognize the rights that they have to support their family as they see fit, to educate themselves and then take sound action will they achieve personal success. They will reclaim their confidence by making well thought-out decisions and then standing up for what they believe.
